points additional to those now in use and also running
services to other places than Yaumati and are prepared to
make the necessary arrangements to meet any such conditions.
14. We should add that our clients are apprehensive that
other applicants by reason of their supposedly greater
influence or alleged greater financial resources or respon-
sibility may be given the privilege over their heads but we
have assured them with confidence that there is no question
of these factors entering into the Government's consideration
of any application which may be received.
16. Inasmuch as the conditions contemplated comprise (as is
understood) the provision of launches of a different nature
to those now in use, our clients wish to point out that it
will take some considerable time for such new launches to be
built and in the meantime it will be necessary to continue
with launches of the present pattern; the only ones available.
They would therefore ask that, in determining the new condi-
tions, the Government fix such date ahead for the provision
of new launches as will ensure sufficient time under present
conditions for them to be built and, in the meantime, in view
of our clients having carried out the services hitherto and
of their resources in launches they trust it will not be out
of place for them to ask that, under any circumstances, they
may continue the service until the appointed date for the
new launches even though the privilege of the new service may
not be given them. Such intermediate carrying on by them
would of course be subject to any new conditions the Govern-
ment impose and would help to mitigate the serious loss they
would sustain by having their 16 launches thrown on their
hands under present conditions.
